Tooling and Forging

Tooling and Forging
The heart of the company is a 5000 ton hydraulic press, where all of our processes were developed. Around 2010, A 2000 ton press joined the line up, adding the ability to forge smaller near net and close die shapes. By combining our ingenious method of re-configuring modular dies, our tooling methods allows us to confidently say that the inventory of available modular components allows Lenape to add grain flow or minimize the needed input weights on expensive alloys. This saves our customers money and time in machining to their final configuration..
The forging methods we use include:
-
Contour die
-
Open die
-
Back extrusion
-
Mandrel expansion
-
Closed die
-
Modular die
-
Upsetting
-
Piercing and punching
-
Plate flueing and forming

01
Aerospace Forgings
Our ability to create difficult aluminum forgings has made us the go to source for companies such as Boeing.
02
Defense Forgings
Lenape has supplied the U.S. government with many different types of forgings for a wide variety of ordnance and other critical defense requirements. From Virginia class nuclear submarines to artillery shells, Lenape Forge can meet all applicable military specifications, and we hold many specific documented approvals by the DoD.
03
Power Industry
Our custom valve components, tube sheets, heads, wye fittings, and cylinders are almost as well known as our standard forgings.
04
Refinery
Refineries, chemical plants, oil production facilities, and pipeline systems use a variety of custom manufactured equipment, designed to withstand high temperatures and pressure. Lenape’s 90 years of producing pressure vessel forgings makes us the ideal source for these applications.
05
Aluminum
Lenape has many years of experience with specialized, difficult to forge aluminum for satellite and missile applications. Our craftsmen can easily handle most standard shapes, including cylindrically shaped large pre-form shapes and hand forgings.
06
Exotic Alloys
Including Inconel, Monel, titanium, and Incoloy, Lenape Forge considers non-ferrous alloys a specialty. Used for their non-corrosive and high temperature resistance, these special alloys require precision handling during the forging process to maintain their metallurgical properties. Lenape has proven experience and skill in working with these metals in military programs known for their demanding specifications.
At Lenape, you’ll find a team of highly trained metallurgists, engineers, technicians and managers whose skill, dedication and care have made us the go-to source for many of the world’s top companies for their critical applications.
01
Quality and Consistency

True quality can only be delivered when a company has a team of dedicated and committed professionals, sufficient experience, and an environment that fosters consistent high quality. Lenape has those requisites. The ultimate proof is the testimony of our customers: repeat business. The vast majority of our business comes from repeat customers who know and understand our level of quality.

Our Accreditations
Power Generation
It takes a significant amount of skill, knowledge and experience to create huge, custom-forged ball valves for nuclear generating stations. Demanding specifications, component reliability and exactness are essential for safe plant operation that must continue for decades with little or no capability for replacement due to the environment.
One of the countries earliest contributors to the development of the nuclear power fleet, Lenape maintains its NQA-1 standard and NIAC approval to continue to supply safety related forgings. We specialize in carbon, alloy, stainless and nickel steel forgings to support the utility and primary equipment providers.

Defense
Nuclear submarines, surface warships, terrestrial weapons systems: They all use some extremely sophisticated custom forgings. Lenape is the source that major contracts to the federal government use for the specialized forgings needed for these critical weapons systems. Lenape has the skills, equipment and all-important knowledge necessary to produce these forgings that must meet the exacting metallurgical and production requirements for military hardware.
Our vast die inventory, together with our unique die system, allows rapid production of these forgings at competitive prices. We supply the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force and other agencies. Lenape is Mil-Spec certified to meet all military specifications.

Aerospace
Lenape has been selected by internationally known aerospace companies and has supplied them with many key components for their space launch rockets and launch vehicles. Our alloy steel shaped nozzle forgings have been used since the 1980’s on the Delta family of rocket motors. Zero defects are a must particularly with manned missions. With every single launch, millions of dollars, and sometimes human lives, are on the line. Lenape forgings have been onboard in many of those launches and have come through every time without fail.
We are hard at work to help burgeoning North American rocket motor companies forge the copper, nickel, titanium, and carbon alloy components to cement the US Space Efforts as the world-leading standard. Whether AMS, ASTM, MiL, or customer specific requirements, Lenape will develop the process to forge the required parts.
Our ASMG family allows us to deliver turnkey products to help our customers achieve the lowest overall acquisition costs. Forging, machining, heat treating, and coatings, we’ll work with you to produce the successful component.

From nuclear submarines to missiles, from chemical plants to medical laboratories, from power plants to torpedoes, Lenape products are trusted to endure and deliver in the most hostile environments and difficult conditions.
