What's a Forging? |
|||
|
A forging is a piece of metal that has been formed, usually, but not always heated, into a shape through the application of pressure. Deformation produces a wrought structure. Note that this is different from the casting process in which
metal is liquefied, and then poured into a mold which dictates its shape
when cooled. Forged metal parts, or forgings, can be found in applications too numerous to list. Lenape Forged Products, Corp.’s markets range from Aerospace to Submarines and from Defense to R&D. Contact Lenape Forged Products, Corp. Sales for more details. |

The
forging process enhances the properties of a metal by orienting grain
flow to provide greater strength where desired.
These improved properties mean that a forged part can do the same
job as a casting, but with less material.
Weight savings can also be achieved by combining parts, and
eliminating the need for fasteners or welds. Forgings are also much more reliable than castings because the material is never re-melted, and therefore, there is no opportunity to introduce impurities or voids. In fact, the forging process can actually improve the material. Defects formed in the casting process can actually be worked out of the material. No,
Lenape Forged Products, Corp. maintains a tremendous number of tooling components that we
can combine at a minimal cost to forge your part.
This “Modular Die” approach is ideal for limited production
runs, R&D applications, or anytime a design is subject to revision
such as in prototyping. Custom dies can certainly be designed and manufactured at Lenape Forged Products, Corp. to optimize the forging process and minimize machining requirements that can be more cost effective at larger quantities. Talk to Lenape Forged Products, Corp. Sales to discuss your application. |
